Timber assortment calculator

The calculator estimates how much of the stem yields sawlogs (top diameter ≥ 18 cm is a large log, thinner is a small log), pulpwood (about 6 cm up to the sawlog limit) and firewood (the thin top and lower-quality wood). Stem volume = DBH² × height × form factor. The split depends heavily on quality (knots, rot, sweep), stem shape and market specs that a single diameter cannot capture, so the result is approximate. Broadleaves, especially aspen and alder, yield less sawlog. Exact bucking is done by a harvester or forest measurer.
