Paternity leave benefit calculator

Work out the paternity leave benefit: up to 30 calendar days based on your average income, capped by the state ceiling.

A father is entitled to 30 calendar days of paternity leave, which can be taken from two months before the expected birth date until the child turns 3. For this leave the Social Insurance Board pays a paternity benefit based on your average income.

How is it calculated?

Daily benefit = average monthly income ÷ 30, capped by the state ceiling (2026: up to €3806.10 per month) and a minimum. Total = daily benefit × number of days, minus income tax 22% (optionally with the basic exemption). The result is approximate – the exact benefit is set by the Social Insurance Board from your previous calendar year income.
