Car taxes and costs in Estonia 2026

Since 2025 passenger cars pay an annual motor vehicle tax that depends on CO₂ emissions, gross weight and age. This guide explains the car tax and the cost of running a car, and points you to the right calculator.

Motor vehicle tax

A passenger car (M1) annual tax has three parts: a €50 base, a CO₂ part and a gross-weight part. The CO₂ and weight parts decrease with the car's age, and a car over 20 years old pays only the base. The tax is paid in two instalments – by 15 June and 15 December. Work out the exact amount with the car tax calculator.
