Days 1–3 are unpaid, on days 4–8 the employer pays 70% of your average wage and from day 9 the Health Insurance Fund pays 70% of your previous year’s daily income (capped at €126.87 per day in 2026). Simplifications: the employer’s part is computed from monthly salary × 12 ÷ 365 and the basic exemption is not applied. Benefits are subject to income tax.

How long can sick leave last?
Sick pay is generally paid for up to 182 consecutive calendar days per illness case. The doctor decides the duration and extension of the sick leave; work accidents and occupational diseases have more favourable terms.
