Standing timber volume calculator
The estimate uses the standard forestry formula volume = basal area × form factor × height (Estonian forest management guide). Basal area (m²/ha) is estimated from stand density: sparse ~16, medium ~26, dense ~36 m²/ha; the form factor depends on species (pine ~0.47, spruce ~0.50, birch ~0.45). Because the real volume depends heavily on density, which is hard to judge by eye, the result is a range. For an exact figure, measure the basal area with a relascope or order a forest management plan. Applies to stands from about 5–6 m height.
