Forest CO₂ calculator

Growing wood absorbs CO₂: about 0.9 t per solid m³ (wood is ~50% carbon, CO₂/C ratio 44/12). The average increment of Estonian forest is roughly 6 m³ per hectare per year, so a hectare absorbs about 5–6 t CO₂ annually. A simplification – real figures depend on species, age and site, and some carbon is stored in soil too. For comparison, an average car emits ~0.15 kg CO₂ per km.
